Aug. 2025 – Feb. 2027: Conservation of Drinking Water through Reconstruction of the Irrigation Network in Mayakovski Settlement, Abovyan community

The project aims at the conservation of drinking water through improvement of the irrigation system and reducing pressures on drinking water use for irrigation purposes.

Mayakovski Irrigation System

The climatic conditions of the area are beneficial for agricultural

production, however most of the residents in Mayakovski settlement do not have access to irrigation water. The pipelines connecting the Kotayk irrigation canal to the settlement, as well as the internal distribution network, are severely damaged depriving the majority of local farmers from irrigation water. As a result, residents have to rely on drinking water from Katnaghbyur water sources to irrigate their plots.

Mayakovski Irrigation System

In order to provide the Mayakovski settlement with sustainable irrigation water and reduce dependence on drinking water use, taking into account the investment capabilities of the parties, the following intervention is proposed:

– Rehabilitation of 1.3 km of the 2 km-long main irrigation steel pipeline (deriving from Kotayk primary canal and reaching Mayakovski settlement) with d=250 mm diameter steel pipes.
– Construction of 3,554 m of the buried distribution network in the adjacent areas of streets #12-15 and 7 where the irrigation system does not exist or is fully dilapidated.
– Construction of 110 water distribution valve units for 220 households in the settlement.
– Procurement and installation of an ultrasonic d=250mm flange-type flowmeter in a 1.5 m diameter concrete chamber on the steel main pipeline with diameter of d=250 mm.

In total, approximately 4,854 m of pipes will be deployed (1,300m for the main pipeline and 3,554m for the distribution network), enabling the irrigation of 28,5 ha of land.
