Tegh Village has a Modernized Irrigation System
We are proud to announce the launch of the irrigation water system in the Tegh settlement of Syunik Marz, which took place on June 19. The project was conceived three years ago by the Urban Foundation at the request of David Ghulunts, Head of the Tegh Municipality.
As a result:
300 households, including 20 displaced households, are receiving irrigation water.
More than 330 hectares of land became irrigable, thereby improving the livelihoods of the beneficiaries and preventing land degradation.

The newly constructed system includes the following components:
A pumping station equipped with three energy-efficient pumps
A 279-meter pipeline connecting the pumping station to the existing Vorotan irrigation canal distribution hub

Solar panels to generate electricity for the pumps

A 900-meter pressure pipeline to transfer pumped water to the upper part of the village
An 80 m³ distribution reservoir for storing and regulating the scheduled delivery of water to end users
An 11-kilometer internal network that delivers water directly to farmers’ plots
The event was attended by the Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos; the Ambassadors of Lithuania, the Netherlands, Cyprus, Romania, and Luxembourg; as well as representatives of the National Assembly and the Syunik Governor’s Office.

This ambitious project, with a total cost exceeding USD 730,000, was made possible thanks to a state budget–community co-financing scheme (subvention) and generous contributions from donors secured by the Urban Foundation—including the U.S. Government, the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme, and the Embassy of Lithuania.
