Job Vacancy – Water Monitoring Expert

Responsibilities

Working closely with PURE-Water project team, Country Water Partnership (CWP) NGO tends to hire a Water Monitoring Specialist who will provide assistance in conducting trainings and carrying out field works on water quality/quantity monitoring for the local-self Government, CWGs, Citizen Scientist etc., as well as develop water monitoring strategy, training materials, including data collection, analysis and reporting.
– Develop an Action Plan for carrying out trainings in the project partner communities on the organization and implementation of a comprehensive monitoring of surface and ground water resources (water sampling, preparing the sample, determining the sampling area based on the objectives, relevant preparations for testing, data analysis in accordance with the appropriate norms and standards)
– Propose mechanisms for the oversight of effective water resources management and use of the Ararat valley
– Draft comprehensive information materials on how to Citizen engagement can turn monitoring into a proactive process through which compliance with performance standards is ensured carry out drinking and irrigation water sampling, research and assessment, including the existing water quality/quantity norms and standards
– Draft comprehensive information materials on how to carry out a research on water quality/quantity in the relevant state and research laboratories
– Draft educational materials on the innovative, simple and comprehensive methods of testing water quality in the fields
– Conduct trainings and field works on the monitoring of water quality/quantity for the community active groups, youth, local self-governments representatives, Project Citizen Scientists and other active groups
– Provide assistance to the Project team in the identification of project priorities, needs, indicators, potential challenges and obstacles related to public monitoring and oversight, coming up with relevant strategic recommendations on how to address those challenges

Required qualifications
– University degree in Environmental Sciences, Hydrochemistry, Hydrology, and/or at least 3 years of experience in the relevant field
– Previous experience in water resources management and monitoring sector and working with RA Government institutions
– Knowledge of the Government institutions, particularly related to the sectors of water resources management and monitoring, and full understanding of decision making processes
– Flexible for frequent traveling to and field works in the Ararat and Armavir Marzes
– Fluency in written and spoken Armenian and English is required
– Computer skills in MS Word, Excel and other database software

Background to the project:
The PURE-Water program is supported by USAID and implemented by the Urban Foundation for Sustainable Development, Country Water Partnership and YSU Ecological Law Resource Center. The program is designed to contribute to the creation of an enabling policy and regulatory framework, strengthening and institutionalizing public participation and raising awareness for the improvement of water resource management in the Ararat valley. The Activity will work with all stakeholders affected by the sector, including residents of the Ararat and Armavir Marzes, local governments, community active groups, etc. The overall objective of the PURE-Water Program is to increase water productivity, efficiency, and quality, as well as foster behavioral change to reduce the rate of groundwater extraction in the Ararat Valley.
