On 6th December 2017, the first meeting of the Task Force created in the framework of PURE-Water project took place to present the outcomes of the Legal Analysis of Water Sector Policy and Legislation conducted by YSU ELRC.
The meeting was opened by introductory speech by Mr. Armen Varosyan – the Chief of Party of PURE-Water Program followed by speeches by Mr. Arthur Drampyan – USAID representative, Mrs. Hayastan Stepanyan – representative of URBAN Foundation and Prof. Aida Iskoyan – Head of ELRC.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the RA Ministry of Healthcare, RA Ministry of Agriculture, RA Ministry of Justice, RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, National Assembly of RA, State Committee of Water Economy, AUA Acopian Environmental Center, experts of ASPIRED Program, Heads of Vedi and Yeghegnut communities, lecturers etc.
The experts of the YSU ELRC introduced the outcomes of the legal analysis with detailed analysis of revealed problems, including the legal gaps and shortcomings of the law-enforcement practice.
The participants were invited to express their positions about specific issues, and several key issues were discussed.
The meeting was concluded with an agreement to send the full version of the legal analysis to the members of the task force. As a result, the position of the involved public authorities and entities shall be submitted to the Project staff and experts. The follow-up meetings of the task force will be organized both in form of official meetings with all members and with smaller groups focused on specific issues.
The project is implemented by Urban Foundation for Sustainable Development in cooperation with YSU Environmental Law Resource Centre and Country Water Partnership NGO. The project is funded by USAID.
