First meetings of Water Sector Public Advocacy Network (WPAN) in the framework of PURE-Water project

In the framework of USAID-funded PURE-Water project, Water Sector Public Advocacy Network (WPAN) was created comprised of CSO and CAG (Community active groups) representatives, farmers, consumer unions from Ararat, Armavir marzes and Yerevan, local self-government bodies, as well as ASPIRED (Advanced Science and Partnerships for Integrated Resource Development) project representatives.

The first two official sessions of WPAN took place on September 13, 2017 on 26th September 2017. The attendants identified 4 main strategic goals related to the improvements of water sector legislation, operation of WUAs, public monitoring and behavioral change.
3 working groups were set up in WPAN – on Legislative Improvement, Public Monitoring & Behavioral Change.
On October 25, 2017, Country Water Partnership Armenia (CWP) in cooperation with Urban Foundation for Sustainable Development organized the first meeting of Public Monitoring and Behaviour Change Working Groups. WPAN members gathered to discuss and develop action plans under the two goals of the Public Advocacy Strategy, particularly the establishment of water sector public monitoring mechanisms and the protection of water users’ rights. The meeting was attended by Pure-Water project and ASPIRED project representatives as well as WPAN members. Representatives from Oxfam in Armenia and OxYGen Foundation were also among the attendants of the event, who shared their experience in public monitoring with the participants, providing valuable recommendations for the implementation of the given goals.
